The caution money is used to provide a financial guarantee, encouraging sellers to fulfill their commitments and ensuring that transactions on the platform are secure and reliable.

The Caution Money* fee based on the seller's turnover for GeM registration. This provision is introduced to bring discipline among sellers on the GeM platform. The one-time caution money amounts are as follows: a) For seller turnover less than 1 Crore: Rs 2,000/- b) For seller turn over > 1 Crore but 10 Crore: Rs 25,000/- Please refer to the GTC document for more details. Yes, there are certain categories of sellers who are exempted from depositing caution money for GeM (Government e-Marketplace) registration. These categories include: Self-Help Groups (SHGs) Artisans Weavers MSE (Micro and Small Enterprises) owned by SC/ST individuals MSE Women-owned enterprises Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) Other Diversified Organizations (ODOP) on a nodal request These exemptions are in place to support and encourage participation from specific underrepresented or disadvantaged groups in the GeM marketplace. Sellers falling under these categories do not need to deposit caution money as part of their registration process.

However, sellers are expected to pay a transaction fee for each sale they make on the platform. The transaction fee is calculated as a percentage of the sale value and is automatically deducted from the seller's account at the time of transaction completion. For buyers, there are no deposits or fees required to use the GeM portal. Buyers can create orders, participate in bidding, and make purchases free of charge. However, buyers are responsible for ensuring that they adhere to the rules and regulations of the GeM portal and their respective organizations when making purchases. On the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, the transaction fee is calculated as a percentage of the total transaction value. The exact percentage rate can vary depending on the product or service category. Sellers are required to pay this fee for each sale they make on the platform. The transaction fee is automatically deducted from the seller's account at the time of transaction completion.
